It’s Tim Tebow’s time in Denver, and before he even makes his first start of the season, the Broncos got rid of the team’s top target. On Monday, Denver traded Pro Bowl receiver Brandon Lloyd to the St. Louis Rams for a conditional 2012 draft pick.
Lloyd led the NFL with 1,448 receiving yards last year, and he had an incredible one-handed catch on the sideline after Tebow came in during the second half of the Broncos’ loss to the Chargers.
An electrifying veteran receiver certainly would have helped Tebow succeed now that the job is his. But is that what Denver’s front office wants?
Coach John Fox and executive vice president of football operations John Elway didn’t draft Tebow and have no allegiances to him. That was evident this offseason when Kyle Orton won the starting job. And by giving away Lloyd shortly after naming Tebow the starter, are Fox and Elway trying to sabotage the Tebow era?
Maybe Elway, a legendary quarterback at Stanford, has someone else in mind that he would like to lead the Broncos in the future.
