Holliday not yet optimistic

Redskins union representative Vonnie Holliday was pleased to see another extension in the talks with the NFL owners. But he’s still not ready to proclaim any real optimism.

The NFL and the NFL Players’ Association agreed to another week of talks in an attempt to hammer out a new collective bargaining agreement. Many issues remain, not the least of which is money. According to numerous reports the sides are approximately $750 million apart in annual revenue. The matter of an 18-game schedule and rookie wage scales, among other issues, remain unresolved.

And there’s also this:

“We still have no formal proposal,” Holliday said.

That’s why any optimism on his end is muted.

“We’re still talking and we’re not lockd out, so that’s what you can be optimistic about,” Holliday said. “But we’ve still got a long way to go to get a deal done….We’re still far apart. But the mediator has done a great job keeping us talking and we still want to get a deal done.”
