Due to security and planning concerns, Democratic leaders are withholding exact times and speaking orders for today’s event at Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium.
The event is expected to begin around 7 p.m. Eastern time.
Among the participants in tonight’s program:
* Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson of “Dreamgirls” fame will sing the Star Spangled Banner. Hudson, 26, told reporters that Barack Obama called her personally to ask her to do the honors.
* Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter will likely be one of the initial speakers. Ritter, elected in 2006, was the former District Attorney for Denver and part of a recent Democratic surge in the state. Ritter’s own popularity in polls, though, has dropped in recent months.
* Al Gore, Nobel laureate and former vice president, will deliver remarks from the stage. Gore, who remained above the fray during the bitterest fighting of the Democratic primaries, has spoken glowingly of Obama since the Illinois senator locked up the nomination. The high-profile slot reflects Gore’s elevated status within the party. In 2004, Gore was among the speakers on Monday.
* Barack Obama’s speech is set for the 10 o’clock hour. He has given no hint of the content of his speech, but Democrats are eager to point out that Thursday is the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.
