Its nine programs play some of the toughest schedules a high school basketball team could build, but the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference has four teams with unblemished records.
After this weekend?s play, Mount St. Joseph, St. Frances, Cardinal Gibbons and Loyola are each sitting pretty through the first two weeks of play.
McDonogh picked up its first loss of the season Saturday at the Aberdeen Tip-Off Mixer. The Eagles lost to Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference power Aberdeen, 70-63, after defeating C. Milton Wright by 33 Thursday.
Also undefeated is Baltimore County public power Randallstown, which picked up a big 31-point win Saturday over Owings Mills to improve to 4-0.
Kim English led the way with 21 points in the win. With multiple players in double figures, coach Kim Rivers has his team on point.
“We played well defensively,” Rivers said. “The kids are starting to pick up more of what the Randallstown philosophy is.”
Elsewhere in Baltimore County play, Woodlawn rebounded from a mid-week loss to Randallstown with a 20-point win over Millford Mill.
As strong as the MIAA A Conference programs have been, the B Conference can?t be far behind.
John Carroll picked up a pair of wins in the Aberdeen Tip-Off Mixer. The Patriots (8-1) defeated in-town rival Bel Air, 70-51, on Thursday before toppling Edmondson, 74-63, Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Isaiah Philmore scored 25 points in both wins while backcourt mate, freshman Josh Selby, scored 31 total points in the two games.
The Patriots play at Gilman today before traveling to South Carolina to partake in the Chick-fil-A Classic Wednesday.
In Howard County, River Hill picked up a 52-39 win over Centennial and Oakland Mills snuck by Howard by one point. Also, Annapolis picked up a one-point, overtime win against Anne Arundel County foe Severna Park.
