Sesame Street bests Penn. Ave.

Here in Washington, we find the presidential campaign rather riveting. But it turns out we’ve been had: The Sesame Street Experience is where it’s at.

Sesame Workshop and the USO announced “The Sesame Street Experience for Military Families” Thursday morning, which included a performance by Elmo, Rosita and Grover(the tour will travel to military locations across the country from July 8 to Nov. 2).

And USO President and Chief Executive Officer Edward Powell thinks you should join the bus tour for one very good reason: “If you go on the tour and not watch television, you can ignore the whole [presidential campaign], which sounds appealing to me,” Powell said. (Although Ed: Some people would say that the presidential campaign, like your tour, is nothing more than a puppet show anyway. …).

And candidates, schmandidates: Deputy Under Secretary of Defense Leslye Arsht thinks that no one’s better to listen to than these Sesame Street characters: “I can’t imagine more credible, reliable and empathetic spokespersons.”
