PBA returns to Baltimore

Danny Wiseman nearly gave his hometown fans reason to cheer last year when he advanced to the semifinals of the Beltway Classic before losing to eventual-champion Sean Rash at AMF Country Club Lanes inMiddle River.

Wiseman is hoping for a little more of a “home-lane” advantage this week as the Professional Bowlers Association returns to Charm City this Wednesday through Sunday for the Lumber Liquidators Championship at the same Baltimore County venue.

“It’s always great when I can come home,” Wiseman said. “Baltimore has always been very good to me.”

The five-day tournament begins on Wednesday with round-robin play and concludes with the finals on Sunday afternoon at 1 with eight bowlers advancing to the final of competition. In the final round, bowlers who finished fifth through eighth after round-robin play will compete in a one-game play-in match, with the bowler who has the highest score advancing to the championship round.

Of the five remaining bowlers, the one with best record during round-robin play automatically advances to the championship match. The four remaining bowlers play a single-elimination tournament to see who earns the other spot in the final. The final and championship rounds will air on a tape-delayed, two-hour special at 8 p.m. on ESPN.

The Lumber Liquidators Championship also marks the first time a Denny?s PBA Tour event has aired in primetime since the fall of 2001 when the final round of six events aired on Tuesday nights on ESPN.
