Cheney as cheerleader?!?

You know things are bad for President Bush when you find Vice President Dick Cheney going around trying to drum up some enthusiasm for the commander in chief.

Speaking to soldiers of the 1st Cavalry Division in Fort Hood, Texas, Tuesday, Cheney began his remarks with, “And I’m proud to be with all of you, and I bring respect and good wishes from our commander in chief, President George W. Bush.”

The crowd clapped but apparently not very loudly, prompting the vice president to let them know that it was OK to show some enthusiasm for a POTUS with only a 33 percent approval rating.

“It’s all right,” Cheney reassured the audience. “It’s Texas.”
