Politics and Athletics Don t Mix

Notice to any congressmen taking part in tonight’s Annual Roll Call Congressional Baseball Game at RFK Stadium: Take it easy out there. At the end of a practice last week, Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, explained his best advice for GOP teammates.

“I told them not to do anything real athletic until after the game Monday,” he said. “I’ve already got two guys that’ve had some problems.”

But Rep. Tom Davis, R-Va., thinks that, no matter how bad the politicians are at baseball, they may be better than our very own Washington Nationals (Nationals hitting coach Lenny Harris helped the Republicans with their hitting during the practice).

When Barton jokingly told his fellow pols not to sign any bonuses while at RFK Stadium, Davis interjected, “It may happen. I mean, [The Nationals] need it.”
