They were linked to Cullen Jenkins, with reports that a deal could be close. But if the talks were serious, they hit a snag and the Redskins turned their attention to free agent defensive end Stephen Bowen.
According to ESPN.com, Bowen received a five-year, $27.5 million contract with $12.5 million guaranteed. A league source said Dallas wanted to keep him, but did not want to pay that much.
Bowen has only started 11 games in his career, but nine of those came last season when Marcus Spears was hurt. Bowen recorded 1 1/2 sacks in 2010. He’s considered a decent inside pass rusher.
He told ESPNDallas, “I think it’s going to be a good fit.”
The Redskins have completely revamped their defensive front, drafting Jarvis Jenkins in the second round, agreeing to terms with Barry Cofield two days ago and now Bowen. They also cut Phillip Daniels and traded Albert Haynesworth this morning.
