Constellation Energy CEO May Shattuck III was named as a top-five finalist to replace outgoing NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue Sunday night. His inclusion came as a surprise to most who had followed the commissioner opening. At one point, Ravens team president Dick Cass was mentioned as a possible successor to Tagliabue.
The speculated favorite has long been Tagliabue?s right-hand man, Roger Goodell, who is among the top five. A list of 185 candidates was trimmed to the current five. Goodell is the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the NFL.

Shattuck, whose wife, Molly, is a Ravens cheerleader, was unavailable for comment Monday.
Constellation?s chief marketing officer, David Nevins, said of Shattuck: “He?s honored and delighted to be included among those on the list.”
Nevins added: “He?s anxious for the process to play out for the next 10 days or so.” Nevins said that Shattuck “is totally focused on his current job,” and will decide further as the process moves forward.
According to NFL.com, the search committee has been headed by Pittsburgh Steelers owner Dan Rooney and Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson. The NFL said each candidate will make a presentation to the league?s 32-team owners at a meeting in Chicago Aug. 7, chaired by Tagliabue. After the presentation, the candidate will undergo interviews with different teams before the teams reassemble to vote on their choice. The new commissioner must have two-thirds support from NFL owners.
