A little Italy in D.C.

Italian food, of course, served up with a little bit of celebrity gossip.
“He travels with two chefs,” Oscar winner Marisa Tomei said of her “Wild Hogs” co-star John Travolta. “One
regular chef and one pastry chef. He eats a fresh pie every day.”
Tomei joined self-proclaimed “B-minus list” chef Mario Batali of Food Network fame and seasoned kitchen vet Lydia Bastianich for a panel discussion held Sunday night at George Washington University.
Tomei charmed the crowd with anecdotes on her early film days with friend and co-star Joe Pesci.
“My mom sent me on the plane ride to the shoot with an entire lasagna,” Tomei said. “Joe sat next to me, and we bonded. He couldn’t believe I had a lap full of lasagna, though.”
When Yeas & Nays asked the Italian eaters where they would dine in the District, Batali ran off a number of D.C. chef Jose Andres’ restaurants.
“We ate at Minibar last night,” said Batali — even though he said Tomei doesn’t usually prefer the 35-course tapas downpour. “Then for breakfast this morning, we went to Oyamel, Andres’ authentic taqueria. And next, we go home.”
