Few broadcasters love college sports more than CBS’ Tim Brando. He has a wildly popular daily radio show on Yahoo! Sports Radio and Sirius XM. Starting Thursday, “The Tim Brando Show” will be simulcast on the CBS Sports Network weekdays from 10 a.m. to 1?p.m. Brando is ready for the college football season to begin this week, and he again will anchor “College Football Today” with partner Spencer Tillman from CBS’ studios in New York.
I spoke with Brando from his home studio about the college football season and his radio show.
This is a wide-open college football season. What teams will you be watching for a BCS championship?
“I am one of those guys who likes to see the college establishment challenged. We know that Oklahoma is going to be good, but they have a tough road game against [Florida State]. If they win that, then they could roll on undefeated. The SEC has LSU, Alabama and Arkansas all locked up in the West, and they could knock each other out of a BCS championship picture. But look out for Boise State if they can beat Georgia and then beat TCU late in the season, finishing undefeated. We might see the BCS have to pick them over a one loss SEC team to face Oklahoma for the BCS championship. By the way, I do like Maryland in the ACC behind FSU and Virginia Tech. They have some fine players, and Randy Edsall and his coaches are very creative.”
Why do you think your radio show has been so successful talking college sports nationally?
“We talk about all sports on my show, but we do love to focus on college sports. Fans love to talk college football and basketball year round, and we want to be their outlet. We have great sources and guests that give college sports fans the best and the latest information possible because we care and our listeners love it.”
