Wizards bring back Gee, waive Hudson

In a move that brings a player back to Washington that the Wizards had briefly last year but let go even though they didn’t really want to, the team announced today that it has signed swingman Alonzo Gee.

The 6-foot-6 Gee played 11 games for the Wizards last spring, averaging 7.4 points and 3.0 rebounds. The Wizards initially brought him in via ten-day contract on March 7 and then re-upped him for a second stint only to see San Antonio swoop in and lure Gee to Texas with a guaranteed deal for remainder of the year.

Gee was waived by the Spurs last week after appearing in just five games this season.

In order to make room on the roster, the Wizards let go of guard Lester Hudson, who was one of the team’s biggest stars in training camp but fell victim to a crowed Washington backcourt that relegated him to six brief or non-impactful appearances in Washington’s first 12 games. Hudson’s next move is yet to be determined. His agent said he was headed back to Memphis to spend Thanksgiving with his family.

The move gives the Wizards additional athleticism and toughness in a guy that could guard as many as three different positions on the floor, from shooting guard to both forward positions.
