I used to work at ABC Radio Network. I’m no longer bragging about it.
It seems that pro-lifers cannot buy air time – even to demand an apology for a false accusation. As a former employee, I am ashamed and appalled that this once proud news organization has degenerated into nothing more than a propaganda mouthpiece for the Democratic presidential nominee.
National Right to Life (www.nrtl.org) was recently told that ABC Radio will not run an ad challenging Barack Obama for repeatedly misrepresenting his position on abortion when he was an Illinois state senator – and then accusing NRTL of “lying” for pointing it out.
On August 11, NRTL released documents that proved that Obama not only voted against the Illinois Born Alive Infants Protection Act, which would have required medical assistance to be rendered to infants who somehow survived an abortion. Obama himself presided over a 2003 committee meeting that killed the bill – which contained identical language to a federal bill Congress had overwhelmingly passed the year before.
On August 16, the Obama campaign accused NRTL of “lying” about his deep involvement in the promotion of what can only be called infanticide. But several independent investigations concurred that the real liar was the Democratic presidential nominee – not NRTL.
Nevertheless, ABC Radio Network informed NRTL that it would not run “Waiting for Obama’s Apology” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h80mSgsQ6CU) during conservative commentator Sean Hannity’s radio program because “while supporting aspects of a Pro-Life position, [the ad] weighs more heavily toward electioneering.”
This is total bunk. The ad was to be paid for by NRTL’s PAC, and “electioneering” is what PACs do. If “electioneering” is enough to deny a particular PAC access to the public airwaves, then ABC Radio must refuse all ads with any political message whatsoever.
By cherry-picking political ads that favor Obama, and refusing to run those that don’t, ABC Radio has relinquished any claim to be an objective source of news. It’s now nothing more than an extension of the campaign of the Democratic presidential nominee, whose deliberate cover-up of his own position demonstrates a chilling tendency to lie for political expediency that goes to the heart of his character and qualifications to be president.
“The ABC gag rule is part of a broader pattern of behavior in which the mainstream news media filter out or distort the extremes of Obama’s pro-abortion record, including his actions to block legislation to protect infants born alive following abortions in Illinois, his commitment to enact the so-called ‘Freedom of Choice Act,’ which would make partial-birth abortion legal again and nullify all parental notification laws, and his support for requiring taxpayer funding of abortion,” NRLC Legislative Director Douglas Johnson said.
The banned ad ends with an unfortunately correct assertion that Barack Obama is “a candidate whose word you can’t believe in.” Unfortunately, the same can now also be said of ABC Radio.
