Everything in Maryland football senior Josh Allen?s word revolves around Saturday. After this weekend?s game against visiting Wake Forest, things are going to change.
“This game has come so fast, it?s crazy to think this is my last home game ? my last game in Byrd Stadium,” said Allen, a tailback. “I?m going to relish every moment of it.”
Maryland?s seniors are hoping to continue their winning ways at home Saturday to end their final season with an undefeated mark there.
“It feels so good. I can?t imagine having it any other way,” Allen said. “That?s one of the things I?ve been talking to the guys about is making it mean something.”
While Terps coach Ralph Friedgen hadn?t given any motivational speech to his seniors earlier this week about playing their final home game at Byrd Stadium, he didn?t hide the emotional importance of this game to his veterans.
“I think they?ve turned things around with their leadership. This is a special game for them, the last time they play in Byrd Stadium and the fact that we can go undefeated in Byrd Stadium,” Friedgen said. “We still have the opportunity to win 10 games. There are not many other teams in the history of this school that would have been able to accomplish what this team has been able to accomplish.”
Heyer, Allen and quarterback Sam Hollenbach are three of a dozen Terps? seniors.
“It?s going to be an emotional game,” Hollenbach said. “I?ve been thinking about it a lot this week ? running out into Byrd Stadium for the last time.”
