Magic (34-23) at Wizards (13-44) pregame: Howard out for Orlando

Nine games left for the Wizards to get two more wins and eclipse the franchise-worst winning percentage of .225, set in the team’s first year of existence as the 1961-62 Chicago Packers, who were 18-62.

With one game left against the hopeless Charlotte Bobcats – who the Wizards walked over last night, 113-85 –  they know at least one very winnable game remains. The other could be tonight against Orlando, which will be without Dwight Howard, who will miss his fourth straight game with a sore back. In his previous three this year against Washington, Howard, averaged 21.7 points, 16.7 rebound and 2.7 blocks. The Magic, who have won two straight after losing their previous five games in a row, have won their last nine games against the Wizards.

The Wizards are still without Nene and Trevor Booker, both with plantar fasciitis. The starting lineup of John Wall, Jordan Crawford, Chris Singleton, Jan Vesely and Kevin Seraphin got its first win in six tries against Charlotte. Of course, a large dose of the production came from 10-day contract owners Cartier Martin (19 points, six rebounds) and James Singleton (18 points, 12 rebounds).

In league news, the NBA announced that the NBA Las Vegas Summer League will return this year, from July 13-22. The Wizards, who have participated every year since the league’s inception, haven’t officially announced that they’re headed back, but there’s no reason to believe they won’t be.
