Let us explain. The couple (David is the chairman of Atlantic Media, and Katherine is the president of the CityBridge Foundation) have closed on the purchase of the Ellenborough Estate in Easton, Md. — the property where the Eastern Shore scenes in “Wedding Crashers” were filmed.
“Right after we were married, 21 years ago, we spent a day driving the Eastern Shore,” Katherine Bradley told Yeas & Nays via e-mail on Tuesday. “And that day planted the idea of someday owning a home there. We’ve been contemplating this move for years and hope to be good stewards of the property as a family home for a long time to come.”
The three-story, 10,000-square-foot Colonial revival home on 54 acres is “a one-of-a-kind home,” listing agent Cliff Meredith told the British magazine Country Life. Contacted Tuesday, Meredith had no comment.
According to the listing, the property dates back to 1659, but its name was coined in 1860, when Matthew Tilghman Goldsborough bought the land to build a house for his daughter, Eleanor. The current brick home was constructed in 1928. It now boasts a foyer with 12-foot ceilings, a curved staircase, nine bedrooms, seven full baths, hardwood floors, eight fireplaces and a modern kitchen. Outdoors, the owners will enjoy a half-mile of water frontage and a new boathouse, as well as a barn, pool, guesthouse and tennis courts.
In addition to its recent cinematic pedigree, President Eisenhower vacationed there frequently. Now how much would you pay? Try $13.6 million, although it was originally listed at $16.5 million. (It spent about nine months on the market.) The move also puts the couple only about 10 miles away from the Republican enclaveof St. Michaels, where Vice President Dick Cheney, White House spokesman Tony Snow and Donald Rumsfeld all have second homes.
