Flying this weekend to Washington state for the U.S. Amateur at Chambers Bay, Bowie’s Chris Baloga had a rare feat to savor.
In capturing the Maryland Mid-Amateur (for players age 25 and older) on Thursday-Friday, Baloga became the first player to win Mid-Am titles in both Maryland and Washington D.C. in the same year. Both tournaments were established in 1987.
In an odd twist, Baloga accomplished the double on the same course – Holly Hills. Baloga shot a tournament record 66-69 – 135 there to win the Maryland event by five strokes. In May, Baloga shot 67-70 – 137 to win the WMGA title by two shots at the Frederick private course.
It’s been a whirlwind summer for Baloga, 27. Earlier this month he was named the new golf coach at Loyola, the three-time defending champion in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
