As if the Mitchell Report wasn?t enough, it just got a little worse for Brian Roberts: He lost to a monkey.
The Orioles? All-Star second baseman, who admitted using steroids on one occasion, was defeated by Bimbo in picking winning football teams during Week 15. Bimbo, who has never taken performance-enhancing drugs, spent this week basking with her monkey friends Oogie, Zoey and Coco after going 10-6 to knock off Roberts, who went 8-8.
Bimbo improved her record to 139-85, but it could have been a little bit better had she continued to pick against the Ravens. The Examiner?s pigskin-picking princess believed the Ravens would beat the Dolphins, only to be dealt a heartbreaking loss when Matt Stover missed an overtime field goal to set up Miami?s game-winning touchdown.
Bimbo apparently learned her lesson. She restored her faith in the Ravens, picking them to defeat the woeful Dolphins. It didn?t happen, so she believes the Ravens will lose their ninth straight game on Sunday ? to Seattle. However, Bimbo may have picked the Seahawks as a token of friendship, as Frisky?s Wildlife & Primate Sanctuary welcomed a seagull into its family this week. It is unclear if Bimbo and the yet-to-be-named seagull will watch the game together.
“She thought surely they could beat the Dolphins,” Joyce Dietsch, one of Bimbo?s caretakers, said. Then again, I?m sure the Ravens did, too.”
A week after facing a standout professional athlete, Bimbo?s challenge has been accepted by two of the Baltimore area?s top high school junior running backs: River Hill?s Michael Campanaro and Dunbar?s Tavon Austin.
Both teenagers led their teams to state titles to cap 14-0 seasons. Since the Hawks and Poets didn?t play this year, we?ll see which team?s star player can pick more winning teams.
And just like always, the winner gets a banana.
