Injured last weekend, Navy QB evaluated
What would happen to the Navy offense without quarterback Ricky Dobbs? The answer could come Saturday against visiting Wake Forest.

Dobbs, the nation’s leading scorer with 16 touchdowns, was injured Saturday at SMU. The junior did not practice Tuesday. He wore a brace on his right leg that ran from his thigh to his ankle.
“I don’t know — day-to-day,” said Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo. “He’s been kind of banged up. He’s had some tough ball games.”
Dobbs was hurt on Navy’s second snap Saturday, but continued to play all the way to the end of Navy’s 38-35 overtime win at SMU. He participated in Monday’s light workout. But was sidelined Tuesday after “it started to tighten up a little bit,” according to Niumatalolo.
“It’s his knee,” said Niumatalolo. “We wanted to make sure to see where he’s at. We took some tests on him today. We’ll find out a little more. A lot of it is, how much [pain] he can deal with.”
If Dobbs can’t play, sophomore Kriss Proctor will get the call against Wake (4-3). Proctor ran 14 times for 82 yards and three touchdowns 11 days ago in a romp at Rice. He was impressive as Dobbs backup last spring, but missed the first month of this season with a knee injury (torn meniscus).
If Dobbs can’t play, untried sophomore Mike Stukel will be Proctor’s backup. Stukel was moved to quarterback from slot back when Proctor went down at the end of the preseason.
“Right now, we gotta prepare as if [Dobbs] is out,” said Niumatalolo. “I don’t know if it’s serious. It could be. We’re waiting for the results.”
