Harford County finally got the monkey off its back. On Monday, Hickory Fountain Green defeated Mineral Area Missouri, 5-2, in the Cal Ripken World Series.
It was the first victory for a Harford County representative in the four years the tournament has been at Aberdeen.

“I am speechless,” said Hickory manager Dennis Kline. “I can?t explain it. It was just a matter of time before we got one. We played flawless.”
Hickory went up, 3-0, in the top of the third, only to yield two in the bottom half of the inning.
Hickory added two insurance runs in the fifth to seal the win.
The manager?s son, Matthew Kline, was named Hickory?s most valuable player in the game after going 1 for 2 with one RBI and getting the win on the mound.
“We focused on throwing strikes and keeping the defense strong,” Matthew Kline said. “I thought I threw well.”
Hickory dropped its opener in the World Series to Lexington, Ky., 11-0, in a combined no-hitter.
Hickory?s next game is 6 p.m. Wednesday against Bronx, N.Y.
