In his first shot in competition in 144 days, Tiger Woods striped his drive down the middle of the first fairway Thursday at August National. Even before the ball landed, there was no doubting its destination. When Woods completes his follow through with his signature club twirl, it means the shot is up to his exacting standards.
Woods received an enthusiastic ovation as he walked from the practice range to the tee box, was cheered enthusiastically as he was introduced, and his shot received a booming ovation.
Woods went on to par the first hole, missing a 10-foot birdie putt.
The world’s greatest player is back. The Masters in underway. Golf is relevant again.
