The new 1757 Golf Club in Ashburn will bring all 18 holes on line next month. The public course opened last year with 10 holes complete, along with an opulent and expansive practice facility. Last week, the facility opened the SeventeenFiftyRestaurant in its 16,000-square foot clubhouse.
Originally conceived as a 27-hole private club, specializing in corporate service, and named The Presidential, it had enlisted high-profile members such as Ted Leonsis and Darrell Green. But with the financial downturn, the club went out of business in mid-construction and has been resurrected as a public facility.
Architect David Heatwole, of Jack Nicklaus Design, created an interesting mix of holes, which traverse wetlands. The course was well conditioned upon its opening a year ago.
With more upscale courses going belly-up than opening these days, 1757 is a must-play course for local public players. We will preview the full 18 when the course is ready to be open.
