Despite the euphoria surrounding Georgetown’s advancement to the Final Four, the Hoyas coaching staff suffered its first casualty.
Georgetown assistant Kevin Broadus was announced as the new head coach at Binghamton. Broadus, 43, has served under John Thompson III for the last three seasons, and replaces Al Walker, who stepped down at the end of year from the Bearcats after seven years.
The news was first reported by ESPN on Sunday evening, and the school made its official announcement Monday, unexpected timing with a national championship run still underway.
“I will be in Atlanta with the Hoyas this weekend. I just hope everyone here in Binghamton will understand and work with me and everyone at Georgetown will understand and work with me,” said Broadus.
A district native and recruiting specialist, Broadus has been an assistant at George Washington, American, University of the District of Columbia and his alma mater, Bowie State.
