Nationals star third baseman Ryan Zimmerman is due to make about $465,000 this year. But the price for one evening with the 23-year-old? A cool $5,000.
That’s how much a date with Zimmerman fetched last Thursday in a charity auction at Nationals Park to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Zimmerman’s winning bid beat out that of his teammates Lastings Milledge and Joel Hanrahan. Among those also participating were “Survivor: Cooke Islands” contestant Becky Lee, Cherry Blossom Princess Jen Corey and Miss DC USA Chelsea Rodgers.
The Nationals had a little extra incentive to participate: They were helping one of their colleagues, Nationals Vice President of Communications Chartese Burnett, a survivor of blood cancer. She is running for the charity’s Woman of the Year title by attempting to raise more money for the organization this spring than her fellow competitors.
