The Redskins need a quarterback, a nose tackle or a pass-rushing linebacker. But it’s too bad they hold a pick in the first round — 10th — that might not allow them to draft a player at any of those positions.

The top quarterbacks in the draft, both of whom come with extreme risks, will be gone. And the others should not be picked this high. The top pass-rusher, linebacker Von Miller, likely will be selected already. There’s no nose tackle who deserves to be drafted that high.
So they’ll draft a receiver such as Julio Jones or A.J. Green, should he fall, or perhaps they’ll select a defensive lineman who has top-five talent, but perhaps not top-five game.
That means they could end up with someone such as North Carolina defensive lineman Robert Quinn, who did not play this past season for dealing with an agent. Quinn could end up as a linebacker in a 3-4 defense. Though some like his athleticism, one scout said of Quinn: “He’s so overrated it’s not even funny.”
As for Jones or Green, they might be the highest-rated players left on the draft board. Yes, there is a need for this spot, too.
“When you have real needs like they do, a receiver is a luxury,” one GM said. “But Julio Jones … would bring a little glitter to the offense. You could make a case for him.”
But as the draft gets closer, the bigger case will be for this: trading down, accumulating picks and then drafting a player in the middle of the first round who can still help.
