After seeing its undefeated season ruined in the state final last year by Eleanor Roosevelt, Sherwood came to Wednesday’s rematch — this time in the Maryland 4A semifinals — anxious for revenge.
And although the Warriors were playing with a largely new cast, it didn’t diminish their desire as they scored two clutch runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to repel the pesky Raiders, 7-5, at the University of Maryland.
Sherwood (16-5) rallied on singles by winning pitcher Kyle Schindel, catcher Tyler Green, and first baseman Gary Mullings. Nick Koutsos added an insurance RBI with a well-placed safety squeeze.
Cleanup hitter Adam Ginsburg added a solo shot, just the third home run this season for power-challenged Sherwood.
