O?s, Rays game gets rained out

It?s yet to be seen if the Orioles? season will be a wash, but Thursday?s game was rained out before it even began.

The final game of the three-game series between the Orioles (1-1) and Tampa Bay Rays (1-1) will be made up at a later date. The Orioles urge fans to hold tickets and rain checks until the date is announced.

Original purchasers who reside outside a 75-mile radius of Oriole Park at Camden Yards may request a refund in writing to the Orioles.

The Rays visit Baltimore two more times this season, both for three-game series from April 29 to May 1 and from Sept. 22-24.

The series in September is followed by an off day on Sept. 25, right before the season-ending three-game home series with Toronto. Tampa Bay, however, plays Detroit Sept. 25, meaning the game will likely be made up in a double-header.

Thursday?s scheduled starter, Steve Trachsel, will throw tonight against Seattle at Camden Yards, and will be followed by Adam Loewen, Jeremy Guthrie and Brian Burres in the four-game series.

MOHAWK FOR MARKAKIS: Thanks to the rain out, Orioles fans weren?t able to see if right fielder Nick Markakis stuck with his new look. But his mohawk turned heads in the clubhouse Thursday afternoon.

“It was just something fun to do in the clubhouse,” Markakis said. “I just wanted to switch it up, have a little fun, and get some looks from people.”

Markakis, who assumed he?d have to shave the rest of his hair before first pitch, made the rough cut into his dark locks, and got some help from left fielder Luke Scott with the finishing touches.

He wasn?t sure if the new look broke team rules, but he said it was time for a trim.

“It was getting long, I hadn?t cut it all spring training,”Markakis said. “It was getting thick.”
