Injured Caps defenseman Mike Green spoke with reporters on Wednesday morning after skating before practice for the fourth time in five days. The 26-year-old, who played 270 NHL games under former Washington coach Bruce Boudreau along with a Calder Cup-winning season at AHL Hershey, reacted to the firing of Boudreau earlier this week. Green said he has yet to speak with his former coach.
“No, I haven’t actually. It’s a new chapter now. But obviously he was a great coach,” Green said. “Unfortunately, we weren’t responding here in the last couple of months. I think it was a necessary thing. But we’re definitely happy to have [new coach] Dale [Hunter] here. He seems to be an honest guy, a strict guy and that seems to be what we need maybe for guys to respond properly.”
As for his injury, Green said it remains day-to-day. He still has “some strengthening” to do with his right groin. But the fact that he’s on the ice at all is a promising sign. He won’t be coming back
