After more than a week on the road, the Washington Mystics are ready to come home.
With only one win on their four-game trip (they are 2-8 on the road this season), the Mystics hope to regain the winning feeling they’ve had at Verizon Center, where they are 7-1.
“We are so ready to get back to D.C.,” Mystics point guard Nikki Teasley said. “It’s been a long road trip and we had hoped to get more wins, but now we’re just anxious to get back to our home court and play these next two important games.”
The Mystics play two home games before the All-Star break begins Monday. When the team takes the floor tonight against the defending WNBA champion Sacramento Monarchs, it’s unclear whether guard Alana Beard will play. She missed the last two games with a sprained right ankle.
“It is truly a day-to-day thing,” Beard said. “I don’t know how I’m going to feel from one day to the next, so I’m just rehabbing and hoping I can get back out there soon.”
Coach Richie Adubato gave his team a break Wednesday, canceling practice for a film session to allow the Mystics to physically regroup from their travels.
“We need fresh legs and rest,” Adubato said. “Right now that is more important than practice for this team to get these next two wins.”
