Capitol Hill screams for ice cream

At Thursday’s 26th annual Capitol Hill ice cream party, staffers in the crowd yelled into their cell phones, “What kind do you want?” as they asked their cubicle bound colleagues inside for their preferred flavor.

In fact, the event caused quite a fury as workers emerged from the depths of their offices to have a cold treat.

Exhibit A: Staff members and interns bringing Xerox boxes to the event in order to bring back huge towers bowls of ice cream for their office.

Of course, ice cream isn’t exactly the most waist line friendly food out there, but Sen. Russ Feingold isn’t too worried. “I don’t see the relation between bikinis and ice cream,” he told Yeas & Nays.

Really senator? Rep. Sue Myrick (ice cream flavor: Coffee) knows the connection, telling those in the crowd to “enjoy the ice cream and worry about it later.”

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson (ice cream flavor: French vanilla) encouraged people to burn off the calories by walking “around while you are eating. You always pay the price.”

Rep. Adrian Smith agreed. “Exercise always helps.”

But, on Capitol Hill, diets are like smart policies: They can alwaysbe put off for another day.
