Minor league shuffle

As the minor league season reaches the midway point, the Orioles have shuffled a number of their rosters based on first-half performances.

This includes promoting first baseman Dustin Yount and utility man Bryan Bass from Single-A Frederick to Double-A Bowie. At the same time, first baseman Mario Delgado and injury-riddled third baseman Tripper Johnson went from Bowie to Frederick.

This came in the same week when the Orioles transferred pitcher Matt Brubeck to Frederick, promoted closer James Hoey from Delmarva to Frederick and promoted hurler Garrett Olson to Bowie.

“This is the time of year when we look at where our players are and where they need to go to have the best possible future,” Orioles Director of Minor League Operations David Stockstill said.

Stockstill added that it is only a matter of time before Frederick pitcher Radhames Liz takes another step toward the major leagues. Exactly where that is will be determined after the All-Star break.

OTTAWA LYNX

Outfielder Luis Terrero led the team with a .321 average through Tuesday, thanks in part to going 8-for-14 with three homers, four runs and six RBI in three games against Columbus earlier this month.

BOWIE BAYSOX

Bowie moved former 2000 first-round pick Beau Hale into the starting rotation, while 1999 first-round pick Richard Stahl will now work out of the bullpen.

FREDERICK KEYS

Nolan Reimold went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored and earned the Top Star award in leading the Carolina League All Stars to a 6-3 win over their California League counterparts Tuesday at Lewis-Gale Medical Center Field in Salem, Va. ? Liz gave up no runs on two hits in one inning of relief for the Carolina squad.

DELMARVA SHOREBIRDS

First baseman Mark Fleisher went 3-for-6 last week with a home run, one run scored and two RBI.

ABERDEEN IRONBIRDS

Reliever Fernando De Nabal (0-1) took the loss after allowing three runs on three hits and three walks over 1.1 innings in a 5-1 loss Tuesday at the Staten Island Yankees.

BLUEFIELD ORIOLES

Zachary Clark gave up two hits in five scoreless innings as Bluefield defeated Elizabethton, 11-6, last Thursday.

MINOR NOTES

The Orioles have still not come to terms with five of its 51 draft picks, including first-round selection Bill Rowell and second-round choice Ryan Adams.
