Nuggets just needed to ‘Melo out

As expected, a team got hosed in the Carmelo Anthony trade. But no one expected that team to be the Knicks.

While the four-time All-Star has led New York to a dismal 7-10 record since the trade, the Nuggets have flourished, going 11-4 without Anthony.

“We all know ‘Melo is a great player, but I don’t think one player has ever won a championship in this league,” Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin told hoopsworld.com. “He’s a great player, but it’s all about playing together right now. That’s what we’re trying to do.”

Denver may lack star power, but the Nuggets have used the depth they acquired from the trade to their advantage.

In a 115-112 win over the Western Conference-leading Spurs on Wednesday, Al Harrington became the seventh different Denver player to lead the team in scoring since the trade.

“They’re a little more unpredictable,” Spurs guard Manu Ginobili told reporters. “They have a bunch of players that can score and they can go to down the stretch.”

Denver’s offense has become as unpredictable as its late-season run.
