Redskins coach Mike Shanahan met with reporters after a business luncheon at the National Conference Center in Leesburg. Here’s what he had to say about the Santana Moss/HGH situation:

On if he’s talked to Moss and his initial reaction: “We’re just waiting on it. I haven’t talked to Santana. Just wait until the facts come in.”

On if he’s concerned about a possible suspension: “I think we’re getting a little ahead of ourselves. Let’s just wait. I don’t know anything about it, just what I’ve read. We’ll just have to wait and see.”

On if it’s a distraction: “There’s a lot of distractions that happen during the season and happen in the offseason. You just have to wait for the facts to see what’s going on.”

If the league has contacted them: “No, they haven’t.”

On the doctor: “I’ve talked to peole whose names have been associated with this person before and there’s been a lot of things that have happened, a lot of people whose names have been associated, and there’s been no repercussions. So we’re getting a little ahead of ourselves.”

On action the Redskins would take: “The same process that we normally go through. If someone is guilty of something they pay the price. But we’ll let the due process take care of itself. And as we talked about before let’s not think the guys is gulity just because his name has been thrown.”

Once more on his initial reaction: “I’ve been in this league for 25 years. I’ve had so many of these things happen. There’s no substance to it. I just have to wait and see. Sometimes there is substance. We’ll wait and see and let the chips fall where they may.”

On if there’s a difference if someone used it to heal from an injury or as a PED: “I won’t get into the science of HGH. I’m not on top of it enough to explain it. But with Santanan, let’s wait and see before we throw him underneath the bus.”

On the fact that a player is connected if that’s a concern or a disappointment: “No, let’s wait and see. Just because someone is associated with a doctor doesn’t mean a person is guilty. Let’s wait and see.”

On if he plans to talk to Moss: “At the right time.”

On how he would adjsut his plans roster-wise: “I treat it like a sprained ankle. If a person went out and sprained his ankle on the first play, they’re gone for the year, they’re gone for the year and if you do something wrong you pay the price. We understand the rules of the NFL. If someone doesn’t abide by those rules they pay the price.”

On pressures players face to get back from injuries: “First of all you’re assuming Santana might be guilty. Let’s wait and see. Everyone will do what they can to get well. There’s treatment, they’re going through massages, a masseuse. People work hard to get back. Santana has been out for a while and is working extremely hard. We understand the rules and guidelines. They’re very explicit. Hopefull we do things the right way.”
