| More insight into Ovechkin’s injury status |
The Capitals announced this morning that star left wing Alex Ovechkin will miss 7-to-10 days with an undisclosed “nagging ailment”. According to senior staff writer Mike Vogel, the move is in line with other recent decisions to hold out players nursing minor ailments. Only fair to link to Vogel’s story since it broke on the team’s web site. Ovechkin will miss at least tomorrow night’s game at Philadelphia. The Caps play just that one time between last Friday’s game at New Jersey and this Friday’s contest at Ottawa.
Starting to become a worrisome trend. Defenseman Mike Green (head injury) didn’t skate as expected during Monday’s practice. He is eligible to play against the Flyers, but that obviously won’t happen. Green remains on long-term injured reserve. Defenseman Tom Poti (groin) was back on the ice, but is still a week-to-week proposition. Jason Arnott (undisclosed) skated by himself again about 45 minutes before his teammates, but also remains week-to-week.
The lone positive news: Goalie Semyon Varlamov (knee) is back and with rookie Braden Holtby back in the minors the young Russian should get a start later this week. More to come from coach Bruce Boudreau. Team officials say general manager George McPhee won’t comment further today. More to come soon.
