Bryce Harper blew a kiss at a pitcher after a home run Monday night. Yes, it should be pointed out that you don’t behave this way in the big leagues. You don’t show up other players like that.
Blah, blah, blah.
What we really mean is: Good for Harper. OK, so maybe it’s not wise to blow kisses at a pitcher because in the big leagues the next guy up, your teammate, will get plunked. And yes this speaks to Harper’s immaturity.
He’s only 18 and needs a couple years of grooming in the minors — not just for his skills, but his mental development.
That said, Harper brings an athletic arrogance that should be welcomed in a franchise that hasn’t done anything. He’ll grow out of certain behaviors — few minor leaguers in the past have been as scrutinized as Harper.
But he won’t grow out of that self-confidence that turned him into the top overall pick. And that’s why, eventually, Nats fans will be the ones blowing kisses.
