Mike Shanahan: I think you have me mistaken for someone else.
Gray: How many people know your decision right now?
Shanahan: This many.
Gray: One finger or two fingers?
Shanahan: Let’s say two.
Gray: When did you decide?
Shanahan: I think I decided Sunday morning. Sunday morning I woke up, had a great conversation with my son, Kyle. Once I had that conversation with him, I was set.
Gray: So this quarterback that you’ll announce in a few minutes, does he know your decision on the two-minute drill?
Shanahan: He just found out.
Gray: So the other one, he doesn’t know? He’ll just be listening to this?
Shanahan: Right. But Kyle’s going to say he told him just to make things worse.
Gray: What was the major factor, the major reason in your decision?
Shanahan: Terminology. Cardiovascular endurance. Sore hamstrings. Cardiovascular endurance. Sore groin. Cardiovascular endurance. He’s not Elway. Subliminal message. The creepy lady from the Snickers commercial told me to.
Gray: So the answer to the question everyone wants to know. Mike, what’s your decision?
Shanahan: In the final two minutes — and this is very tough — in the final two minutes I’m going to take the talents of Rex Grossman.
Gray: So that was the conclusion you woke up with this … Oh no, Mike, we’ve got to go. JaMarcus Russell just ate a football.
