His talent is scary. So is his background. And that’s why Oklahoma State’s Dez Bryant might stumble in next month’s NFL Draft.

“There hasn’t been a receiver as talented as him since Calvin Johnson [in 2007],” ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay said. “[But] there’s a real good chance he won’t go in the top 10 or 11 spots.”
Johnson, don’t forget, went No. 2 overall. But the 6-foot-2 Bryant has character issues to the extreme. He had what McShay and others have termed an “awful upbringing” — mother in and out of jail. His mom was 15 when he was born; his dad was in his 40s. He also has a learning disability and was suspended for lying to the NCAA last fall.
“It was a very tough upbringing for him,” McShay said. “He’s obviously paying the price, and NFL teams are concerned.”
