Teddy wins…then loses…the Nationals foot race

Roosevelt gets rescinded

By now, most Washington Nationals fans know that the Teddy Roosevelt mascot never wins the “President’s Race” sprint with former “presidents” Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and George Washington.

But there’s always hope…In fact, some fans were hoping that Teddy might eke out his first win on “Teddy T-Shirt Day” last week. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be.

During Saturday’s night game against the Colorado Rockies, however, victory looked to be Teddy’s. He soared past Tom, Abe and George as the crowd went wild and he broke through the finish line well ahead of the others. It was Teddy’s first win!!!

Only problem? The rules during this particular President’s Race stipulated that there was no running allowed, just fast walking, and Teddy had sprinted the entire time. He was disqualified and the gold medal went to Jefferson.

Teddy fans went home disappointed again…
