The Red Sox and Yankees have nothing on El Clasico in Spain, which has reached new levels in recent years thanks to the massive TV deals that help fund Barcelona and Real Madrid. The two archrivals met in four critical clashes in a span of three weeks last season: in La Liga (1-1 draw), in the Copa del Rey final (1-0 Real Madrid win in overtime) and over two legs in the Champions League semifinals (3-1 Barcelona aggregate win). Their second and final league clash of the current La Liga campaign takes place Saturday in Barcelona, with first-place Real Madrid leading Barcelona by four points. Both teams are 30 points clear of third place and the rest of the league.
Epic could only begin to describe the drama if both teams come from behind in the Champions League semifinals to reach the championship in Munich, Germany, on May 19. After the first leg, Madrid is behind 2-1 to Bayern Munich, and Barcelona is 1-0 down to Chelsea. Both teams will host the second leg next week, and both will be favored.
