Cheers & Jeers » On the radar: Navy looks for two in a row against Irish

» It’s a big week for area college football teams. Navy hosts Notre Dame at M&T Bank Stadium on Saturday in a nationally televised game. The Midshipmen are already bowl eligible at 6-3 and seek a second straight win over the Fighting Irish (5-4).

» A game against a ranked opponent at home? Chalk up an easy win for Maryland (6-3) next Saturday against No. 17 North Carolina (7-2). Okay, maybe not. But there is no question the Terps have played better this season when expectations have been lower. That’s once again the case after a frustrating 23-13 loss at Virginia Tech. If Maryland wins out against the Tar Heels, Florida State and Boston College it heads to Tampa for the ACC championship game.

» Virginia Tech (6-3), meanwhile, is also still fighting to reach Tampa. The Hokies play at Miami (6-3) on Thursday. The two teams are tied with North Carolina for first place in the ACC Coastal Division.
