Ravens right tackle Jonathan Ogden will see limited playing time in his first preseason game of the year when Baltimore travels to take on the Minnesota Vikings on Friday, head coach Brian Billick said.
Billick added that Ogden, who missed most of training camp following the death of his father, would be treated like the other starters who played against the New York Giants in the preseason opener two weeks ago.
“We?ll push this as far as we can,” Billick said. “We have to keep in mind that this is his first preseason game. Starters in their first preseason game, you?re looking for 12 to 15 plays. You need to get at least that, and maybe a little bit more if we can.”
SIMILAR APPROACH: Billick said the starters should play around two quarters each against the Vikings, much like they did last week against the Philadelphia Eagles. Then, Billick hopes to get a better look at some of his reserves and those on the bubble of not making the team.
“Getting a look at the next group of guys is becoming more and more critical,” Billick said.
MORE OF MOORE: Wide receiver Clarence Moore, a three-year pro out of Northern Arizona University, is expected to see a little more action than Ogden in his first preseason game after being sidelined with a sports hernia during training camp.
“He needs to play more of the game,” Billick said. “Clarence needs to get back in a rhythm. You expect your receivers to be able to go a little longer.”
FAMILIAR FACES: When the Ravens play the Vikings, they will notice a number of familiar faces on the opposing sideline. Former Baltimore wide receivers Marcus Robinson and Travis Taylor, along with running back Chester Taylor, now call Minnesota home.
Taylor was a Ravens first-round pick in 2000 and spent his first five years in the NFL in a Baltimore uniform, while Robinson spent the 2003 season with the Ravens. Taylor joined the Vikings this offseason after signing with the team as a free agent.
His best year in Baltimore came in 2004 when he rushed for 714 yards.
