Zimmer: Obama should ditch Zegna

It’s a special day indeed when George Zimmer comes to the Capitol of the United States,” said Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday.

Zimmer, of course, is the businessman (and voice) behind Men’s Wearhouse. “In these tough times, we can’t afford not to look our best — I guarantee it,” he said, riffing on his signature line.

Zimmer flew in from San Francisco for the annual Capitol PurSuit Drive, which collects used suits for people who are transitioning back into the work force after unemployment.

Zimmer’s a big Barack Obama supporter (he maxed out with a $2,300 donation and has offered to host a fundraiser at his home). He also has a suggestion on how the candidate can deflect charges of elitism: donate his expensive Zegna suits and replace them with Men’s Wearhouse models (OK, so there’s an ulterior motive).

The suit drive was expected to take in about 10,000 items of clothing for the cause.
