Albright: Still a cut up

Meeting of the minds

Five former secretaries of State gathered on the George Washington University campus Monday to the challenges the next administration will face, but it was Madeleine Albright’s zingers that took center stage. Opening the discussion, journalist Frank Sesno set up a scenario of being at the inaugural ball. “If the new president rushed by you,” Sesno asked, “what would you tell him should be his biggest worry?” Albright gave no advice expect a friendly reminder, “Remember, you wanted this job.”

In discussing the environment, CNN’s Christiane Amanpour wanted to make clear all five secretaries — who also included Henry Kissinger, James Baker, Warren Christopher and Colin Powell —  were in agreement that it is mankind that causes global warming. Amidst all the “yeas” in agreement, Albright added, “Yes, except in Alaska,” which had the crowd loudly applauding the obvious jab at Sarah Palin.

She also took time to recognize that her being female was not the only trait that differentiated her from the others.  “It doesn’t happen to me often” she began, but I am the “youngest one up here!”
