Obama Got a Raw Deal
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Tuesday that, under a less “insane” presidential campaign structure, Sen. Barack Obama might have phrased his recent controversial comments about Pakistan differently. Obama said that if necessary, he would use military force to root out terrorists in Pakistan, a U.S. ally.
“I don’t think he would have said that in a more thoughtful setting with more preparation,” Gingrich said at the National Press Club.

He said the immediate reaction by Obama’s opponents as well as by the media was to “attack Senator Obama, not to explain the underlying kernel of what he said,” namely that Pakistan is a very dangerous place and a breeding ground for terrorists that no longer can be ignored.
“It’s not a 30-second answer in an audition,” Gingrich said as he pushed for the 2008 general election candidates to agree to a series of debates with few rules or strictures.
