Not much new news from Bruce Boudreau’s pre-game chat with the media – other than him confirming that defenseman Mike Green is officially out. He did not take part in the morning skate and was listed as doubtful. Meanwhile, rookie center Marcus Johansson is also sitting tonight, an apparently healthy scratch.
“Needs to watch a game,” was the taciturn reason Boudreau gave.
Johansson hasn’t registered a point in any of the last five games – though he’s still only a -1 during that stretch. Johansson has three shots on goal in those games with four attempts blocked and four missing the net completely. He has won just 20 of 47 faceoffs and his ice time has dwindled: 13 minutes, 39 seconds; 13:44; 14:06; 11:28 and finally 10:07. That’s not a trend any player wants to see and kind of speaks for itself. We’ll see if the rookie gets back in the mix on Sunday night against the Rangers.
