Comedy Central funnyman Jon Stewart received the USO of Metropolitan Washington’s Merit Award on Tuesday night at a dinner at the Ritz-Carlton Pentagon City. The award, typically given to celebrities, is designed to honor people who have supported the troops.
USO spokeswoman Nichole Causey said Stewart regularly comes down from New York to visit with wounded soldiers at Walter Reed, but “up until now he’s done it for no public recognition; he just did it out of the goodness of his heart.”
