Jordan returns in his new role as owner

When the Charlotte Bobcats come to Washington on Tuesday, it will be their first visit with Michael Jordan as the team’s majority owner, after his purchase was approved last week.

It’s good to know Jordan finally has a full-time job after part-time stints the past decade in some notable cities. (It’s been reported, of course, that he won’t be living in Charlotte full-time. No big deal, right?)

Here are a couple of other suggestions for Jordan on how to build a franchise:

1. Don’t tie up the future of the team in an overblown teen-aged No. 1 overall draft pick that eventually flames out and becomes one of your city’s least favorite visitors.

2. Don’t trade away the team’s best scorer at the first opportunity to a team that will use him to win an NBA title two seasons later.

3. Try to avoid making short-term head coach hirings, especially of unqualified guys from the college ranks.

Best of luck, Michael.
