Redskins vs Falcons: Fourth quarter review

Final: Falcons 31, Redskins 17

1st Qtr | 2nd Qtr | 3rd Qtr | 4th Qtr

» Santana Moss had his second drop of the game.

» Nice grab by Todd Yoder in the back of the end zone. Couldn’t really tell if he got both feet down, but no way could they overturn it based on the replays we saw.

» Redskins showing some character, which they did not show in the first half.

» The Falcons are a young team and have reacted to the big lead like a young team would.

» Give the Shermans – Smith and Lewis – credit for the play-calling. They’ve done a nice job keeping the Falcons off-balance with their formations, showing strong to one side and going to the other. More quick throws. It’s worked. The Redskins have a nice rhythm going.

» OK, so Landry had the great tackle earlier in the half, but blew it on Turner’s 58-yard touchdown run. He rolled at Turner’s feet and had his head down. That’s a cocky tackle attempt, one you can make in college. Should know that it’s not going to work here. The Redskins DB’s have tackled poorly as a group; not fundamentally sound at all.

» Here’s the thing, the Redskins dominate and get within a touchdown and THREE PLAYS LATER the Falcons score. Horrible.

» The Redskins got greedy on their first drive after Atlanta’s touchdown. It left Jason Campbell injured.

» But they went back to the running and quick throws that got them back in this game.

» Listen, we’ve been all over LT Stephon Heyer, but give the kid credit for playing on a bad leg. He has not had a good game, but he has played in pain and showed some character.

» Santana Moss with his third drop. That’s just not like him.

» Did not like the play call on the fourth and 1. The Redskins have run well going left out of I-formation. Of course Atlanta was expecting that, but still. Mike Sellers bumped into Will Montgomery running to the flat; Montgomery had been pushed back by the Falcons D-line.

» I really like the energy Ladell Betts ran with today. He’s not an effective reserve back; he does much better when he can get into a rhythm. His average yards per carry when he gets at least 20 runs has to be much better than when he gets only a handful. Not sure how accurate that is, but that’s how it has appeared. Will check that out later.

» Love the quick pass to Moss – Davis had a nice block on the play. Montgomery also ran downfield for a nice block. Good hustle.

» Jason Campbell clearly has no burst when he runs at this point. It showed on his third and 3 run and the inability to push and throw showed on the fourth down pass, which was short of a wide-open Malcolm Kelly.
