Younger Glennon brother looks like a keeper at N.C. State

At Virginia Tech, Westfield High graduate Sean Glennon took over as starting quarterback in 2006 when Marcus Vick was dismissed from school. Five seasons later, his brother, Mike Glennon, ascended to the starting role at N.C. State when Russell Wilson transferred to Wisconsin. While the circumstances of their promotions are similar, the younger Glennon hopes for a different ending to his career. After starting for two seasons, Sean lost his job in his senior year to sophomore Tyrod Taylor.

Judging from his results so far, there is little chance Mike Glennon will be replaced. He has completed 59 of 92 passes for 745 yards with eight touchdowns and one interception.

On Thursday night, he leads N.C. State (2-1) at Cincinnati (2-1) in a battle of quarterbacks who have replaced high-profile standouts. Bearcats signal-caller Zach Collaros took over last year for Heisman Trophy candidate Tony Pike.

“He’s a good quarterback,” N.C. State coach Tom O’Brien told reporters after Glennon threw four touchdown passes Saturday against South Alabama. “I don’t think there’s any doubt about that.”
